In a recent interview, Ulrich Ix, President of FERVER – European Federation of Glass Recyclers explains to Close the Glass Loop what happens to glass packaging between the bottle bank and the glass cullet recycling facility and why each step matters.
His message is simple: glass recycling starts long before the facility.
- Bottle banks should be convenient, visible and safe, not hidden in dark corners.
- Glass should be emptied carefully and transported in clean trucks.
- Every extra drop by truck or wheel loader breaks more glass and makes recycling harder. – Many citizens still ask the same questions, so better communication is needed in schools, in the media and in every community.
